If your home has timber doors and windows then at some point you might be wondering what is the health of the timber underneath your chosen paint finish. Or perhaps you have been putting off repainting them for a while? Read on to find out what can be done to save and restore your timber windows at a fraction of a cost of a brand new one.

Looking after your timber doors and windows canprevent a lot of serious issues further down the track such as wood rot, pealing paint or even the need for a whole new window or door. When the timber is exposed to the elements such as rain for a long period of time either because the coat of paint has faded or they have not been painted properly, it is almost inevitable for some rotting to occur.

In Melbourne we have a range of weather conditions all year round so hoping that your doors and windows will survive until next summer might not be the best idea.

If you happen to notice paint peeling off and suspect wood rot has already begun it is not necessarly the end. Not all is lost yet.

In most cases timber windows and doors can be restored by replacing the rotten sections with new timber and matching it perfectly to the existing shape of the window or door as seen in the images in this post.

A good quality primer and a few coats of paint will perfectly hide the repairs done saving you money and repurposing an existing window.
