Roof and Gutter Leaks

Water to any structure or building can be a constant cause for issues such as leaks, unexplained pools of water on ceilings and walls as well as rot to the timber throughout any home.
No matter how well a property is maintained there is always chance water will make its mark somewhere and the earlier an issue is fixed the less damage you will have to deal with down the track.
A tiled roof leak for example can be an obvious issue such as missing tiles, shingles, etc, or as difficult as a hairline crack in a tile which can take a while to find. Wind, animals such as possums, and general bad weather conditions can cause damage to the roof however not many people would know if a tile was cracked due to someone who has incorrectly stepped on one in the past.
When an issue is not obvious at first this is what I always look for first. Eliminating a cracked tile can help narrow down the problem.
Water, however, has very creative ways it travels along surfaces and at times the issue or damage can be quite the distance from where the leak is visible.
Another common water damage affecting roofs can be overflowing and blocked gutters and downpipes. This sort of blockage usually means water not only spills over the visible side of the gutter but also towards the roof tiles themselves and at the same time under them eventually spilling onto the eaves. This is a relatively easy fix as cleaning the gutters should solve the problem and the stain will most likely dry out on its own however if there is a bit more of a blockage to the downpipes themselves then a little more effort is needed to find unblock them.
Getting on top of issues such as these early can prevent the water from traveling further into your property and potentially causing major interior damage.
